Jewelry Care

Proper care of your jewelry ensures its beauty and integrity for years to come. I use a mix of precious and colored gemstones all of which have their own properties, levels of hardness and care guidelines. If you’re unsure of how to care for your piece here are a few general guidelines:

-POLISH! Over time, any Sterling Silver jewelry exposed to air will tarnish. Sterling Silver is 92.5% Silver, and 7.5% Copper. Its the Copper that makes the Sterling Silver tarnish. The Copper reacts to moisture and Sulfur in the air, causing the Silver to tarnish.

-Sterling Silver will tarnish faster in high humidity, and air pollution. Chemicals like hairspray, perfume, deodorant, body lotion, etc., can speed up the tarnishing process. Store jewelry in a proper manner to prevent oxidization (tarnishing).

-Always remove your jewelry before using any products containing bleach, ammonia, alcohol, citrus juice, salt, or detergents.

-Avoid wearing your jewelry while swimming in chlorinated or salt water.

-Remove your jewelry before washing your hands or bathing. Soaking in water can loosen stones from their settings, and damage porous stones like turquoise.

-Be aware of any loose stones, if you feel that the stone is loose in the setting, I would be more than happy to repair it. Please don’t wait until the stone falls out to get your piece repaired. Because the majority of my pieces are one of a kind in shape, and no two natural stones will look exactly the same, it would be very difficult to find a replacement.
